Right now Sorcerer are not only good but probably the best caster in the game. I will just list the abilities that are useful in RvR to give everyone a feeling for the class:
Useful Sorcerer abilities (40/36 spec):
179 Lifetap 60% health return
163 Spec DD for only 22 power for use when not lifetapping
AE 58 Dex/Qui debuff
AE 60 second root
Runspeed
AE Amnesia
Cure Mez
Yellow pets
AE 54 Str/Con Debuff
59 Secs 350 Radius 1875 Range AE Mez
Power Regen 4
Self Resist Mez Buff
There is no other caster in the game that has compareable tools. Sorcs do not only have great CC but also can to decent dmg and can use MoC lifetap. I don’t think that there is any class in the game that can beat a sorcerer that has his RAs up 1on1 short of a darkness spiritmaster that has MoC himself. (And the utility of a dark spiritmaster can’t even be compared to a sorc cause though he has some of the same tools all are worse but the lifetap(which he has to spec for) and he is totally missing some)
The infamous Bonedancer that is argued to be overpowered 1on1 simple has not the slightest chance to beat a Sorc with MoC. Should a primary CC class be able to beat the arguably strongest 1on1 class (that has no kind of AE CC or AE Damage in exchange for being powerful 1on1) on a regular basis?
With the new realm abilities that will be introduced in NF sorcerer will become ungodly powerful in small scale RvR. Just imagine a sorc with MoC 3,purge 2 and the new sorcerer ability that grants 90% absorb if an assist train should actually reach him. He will hit for slightly more then a BD with his instant lifetap (75% of 179 = ~135 delve lifetap) but not only every 4 seconds but buffed about every ~1,3 seconds for 30 seconds. A sorc will be able to have those RAs at 5L5. Add two forms of long lasting AE CC, a pet, AE Con debuff and runspeed and you have an incredible powerhouse. And this gets only better as the sorc gains Realmranks.
Most sorcerer argue that they are the primary CC of Albion and need those abilities to compete with the healers and bards but actually the times of the assist trains going for the sorcerer first and killing him in 2 seconds are over since the introduction of Bodyguard. Sure caster will go for you but they will also go for any Bard, Healer or any other caster they see.
Right now I already see groups of 2 or 3 sorcs running around and whipping everything short of a gank group more often then they loose. Sure they are all high RR and know their class well but this is happening far to frequent to be just “one very skilled player”. There is not much skill needed to cast CC from outside range and assist nuke/hit MoC when needed.
A side note on the lifetap: It is ok and understandable that every class was given a level 50 baseline spell cause of the resist problems but I am sure that someone at mythic simply made a mistake while introducing the level 50 lifetap. Up to this point the damage ration was 0,863 to 1 if you compared baseline lifetaps to baseline nukes. With the level 50 spell the ratio became 1 to 1. I am pretty sure the someone just made it 179 like the nukes in the other realms forgetting that it was in fact a lifetap that cause of balancing reasons always did less damage. Just imagine the level 47 spiritmaster lifetap being a 219 delve spell. That would be the same comparison. Ever wondered why the spec lifetap for cabas does less dmg then the baseline lifetap?
